This was a complete first-floor renovation including moving the laundry to the second floor to make room for an entry area.

The Success Story

We completely gutted the first floor of this home and removed almost 30 feet of interior partitions to give the space an open-concept feel. The formal dining room became a sitting area with 12 feet of cabinetry including a wet bar with a wine and beer fridge. The new kitchen layout was similar to the old one except we traded the island for a peninsula with seating. Before, when you came in through the garage you entered a small room with a laundry room behind it. By moving the washer and dryer to the second floor we were able to create an inviting entry area with custom cabinetry and a shiplap covered wall with hooks. This created a vast amount of storage in the entry area.

We had to build two columns to support the second floor since we removed most of the interior partitions. We decided to make the columns match the fireplace surround and install cabinets between the columns. From there we sourced a solid oak slab for the top and finished it to match the new oak flooring. The result is a functional open living space with multiple uses. The family was a great pleasure to work with and the kids enjoyed being a part of the project by helping with some demos and even installing some of the new hardwood flooring.
